Some people might think that these anglers are crazy for getting out in this cold, rainy weather to go bass fishing.  Well, I am sure if you ask any of them “What are you thinking?” they would most certainly reply “Our cause is worth it.”  I hope the fish are biting and everyone is staying warm.  Keep checking in, we should have the results of the weigh-in soon.

Bring Home the Bass

TOBI 2009

TOBI 2009

Casting began at 7 a.m. and we are hoping that these anglers are reeling in the big ones.  The weather is rainy and below 40 degrees and we hope that everyone is staying warm.

This year a record number of teams are taking to Lake Toledo Bend in hopes to reel in the biggest bass.  Last year’s biggest bass, brought in by Windy Robbins, tipped the scales at 10 pounds 64 ounces.    We can’t wait to see what this year’s fishermen will lure in.

Scales open at noon.

Good luck to all the teams.  May the biggest bass win.

Don’t forget to watch the weigh-in station LIVE:

Courageous Kids from Texas Children’s Hospital

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. Host 1,200 fishermen for a TOBI event and reel in the funds that help support the renal unit at Texas Children’s Hospital.

The generosity and support of TOBI members, volunteers and sponsors has had a valuable impact on Texas Children’s Hospital and the patients and families it serves.  For 19 years, the non-profit organization has donated funds to aid with patient care, education and research for the renal unit.  Along with monetary donations, they also have given their time to reach out to the children that receive treatment at the unit.  They teach the children what they know – how to be a good fishermen.  They take the children out of the hospital environment and teach them how to cast, how to bait the hook, and how to catch a fish.  What TOBI volunteers do is give a child an experience that they will remember for a lifetime.

Meet Emma and her grandmother.

Emma was diagnosed at birth with infantile polycystic kidney disease (PKD).  She was sent to Texas Children’s Hospital immediately after she was born, and before her parents were even able to have a glimpse of her.  A week shy of her second birthday, Emma received a kidney transplant from her grandmother, who is in her 60s.  The transplant was a success and more than 12 years later, Emma feels a one-of-a-kind bond with her grandmother.

TOBI is proud to support all of the brave children who recieve treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital’s Renal Unit.

Testing the Waters

As fishermen were coming out to register this morning, George Hanst of Cenergy decided to test the waters and see if the bass were biting. Good lookin’ bass George.  Too bad the tournament hasn’t started yet.  Casting time is set for 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, NO EARLIER, and scales open at noon.  Good luck to all.
